South Florida’s waters are the site of an underwater paradise just waiting to be explored. On this excursion, you can choose to jump right in and snorkel with the beautiful subtropical marine life at a coral reef, or observe from above in a glass bottom boat. One of Sea Experience’s 45-foot, fully-outfitted catamarans will take you from Fort Lauderdale to one of the area’s most beautiful snorkeling sites at the Fort Lauderdale Twin Ledges.
Glass Bottom Snorkel trips depart daily at 10:15a.m. and 2:15p.m. Included with your ticket are a snorkel, mask, fins, and a snorkel vest. Beverages and snacks are sold on board, and beginners are just as welcome as pro snorkelers, and those just happy to stay aboard and look through the boat’s large glass observation window at the vivid scenery below.
From above, you’ll see the white sandy bottom through clear water, as well as vivid coral that makes up Fort Lauderdale’s own reef. The waters off Fort Lauderdale offer some of the best diving on the continent, and by default, some of the best snorkeling as well. It’s not uncommon to see sea turtles, rays, and if you’re lucky, perhaps something more, like a snorkeler (keep your eyes peeled). This stretch of shoreline is the closest to the warm waters of the Gulf Stream, meaning the temperatures are generally conducive to comfortable snorkeling and a gentle breeze will cool you off when you’re on deck in the sun.
The Sea Experience I and II boats are U.S. Coast Guard certified vessels, and contain spacious decks and passenger amenities including a fresh water shower, toilet, a beverage cooler, rinse buckets, and twin outboard engines that make for silent cruising. Don’t forget to bring sunblock, your bathing suit and a towel!
