More like a sanctuary than a museum, The Museum of Modern Art in midtown Manhattan has earned its reputation as the greatest collection of modern art in the world, and this world-famous institution is well worth the trip for anyone visiting New York City. An inspirational building in its own right, filled with light and contemporary space and design, MoMA houses such masterpieces as Vincent van Gogh’s The Starry Night, Claude Monet’s Reflections of Clouds on the Water-Lily Pond, and Andy Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup Cans. That’s right: many of those pieces you perhaps thought of as classics are actually modern art! Not limited to the abstract, MoMA holds the works of such masters as Paul Gauguin, Georges Seurat, Paul Cézanne, and many more.

In addition, the rebels of the art world are represented here in their interpretative splendor. Marvel at the works of Jackson Pollock, Salvador Dali, Paul Gauguin, Pablo Picasso, Dorothea Lange, Cindy Sherman, Elizabeth Murray, Wilson Bentley, and countless others.

In addition to its premier permanent collection, The Museum of Modern Art regularly features a truly unique range of ever-changing special exhibitions. MoMA also regularly screens a wide array of films, from classics to blockbusters, which is a great way to spend time on a rainy day! Enjoy lunch in one of MoMA’s three eateries, which feature an excellent variety of fresh and seasonal foods; and be sure to stop in at MoMA’s flagship Book & Design Store and pick up a print of your favorite piece!

The Museum of Modern Art describes itself as “a place that fuels creativity, ignites minds, and provides inspiration.” Agreed! Get inspired when you come to New York, and experience the institution that houses the world’s most revolutionary and legendary contemporary art.
