Cultural Walking Tours of Harlem offers 4 tour options; each a 2-hour professionally guided tour of a specific Harlem neighborhood.

You’ll get a distinct, insider’s perspective of Harlem and learn all about its history. From its Revolutionary War sites, historic mansions, row houses, churches, speakeasies, jazz clubs, and more, these guided tours are some of the best ways to explore Harlem’s diverse cultural and social history.

Choose one of four tour options:

  • Tuesdays & Thursdays at 10:00 am – Hamilton Heights & Sugar Hill Historic District Tour: named for Alexander Hamilton, one of America’s founding fathers, go on a tour of this Northern Manhattan neighborhood.
  • Fridays at 10:00 am – Sugar Hill North & Lower Washington Heights Tour: visit the storied Hamilton Heights/Sugar Hill plateau where you can see historic 18th and 19th-century estates of famous NYC figures, including Alexander Hamilton and Madame Eliza Jumel and learn how Sugar Hill got its name from the many professional African-Americans who lived there in the 20s and 30s.
  • Saturdays at 10:00 am – Central Harlem Historic Tour (Home of the world-renowned Apollo Theater): considered the Mecca for African-Americans at the turn of the century, learn all about how Central Harlem contributed to the proliferation of Jazz and Swing and how it’s still today one of the most vibrant places for the arts, dining, and shopping.
  • Mondays at 6:00 pm – Destination Uptown – Swing Dance (Stroll and Dance Class): bring your dancing shoes; this tour includes a Swing Dance Class after a walking tour of Harlem. You’ll learn all about Harlem was a stomping ground for big names in swing, like Lindy Hopper, Frankie Manning, and many others.

Reservations

Reservations are required. Please call (212) 939-9201 or e-mail tours@harlemonestop.org. Your pass number and a credit card number are required to reserve space. Your credit card will only be charged if you do not show up for the tour or do not cancel within 24-hours of the tour start time.

Sugar Hill North and Lower Washington Heights Tour: Friday at 10:00 am

Central Harlem Historic Tour (Home of the world-renowned Apollo Theater): Saturday at 10:00 am

Destination Uptown - Swing Dance (Stroll and Dance Class): Monday at 6:00 pm
