There’s no need to go all the way to Africa to experience an incredible wildlife safari—the San Diego Zoo Safari Park lets you take in all the splendors of the savanna, just 35 miles north of downtown San Diego!
The San Diego Zoo Safari Park offers 1,800 sprawling acres of scenic habitat, where you can closely view lions, tigers, rhinos, elephants, giraffes, zebras, cheetahs, gorillas, antelope and many more iconic species in a naturalistic setting. The Park is home to more than 2,600 animals, representing more than 300 species.
At the 33,000-square-foot Lion Camp, guests get a rare opportunity for a face-to-face encounter with lions. And the Tull Family Tiger Trail experience puts visitors right into the world of colorful Sumatran tigers, providing a closer view of this remarkable species than was ever before possible to enjoy.
Choose from one of many available safari adventures, or step aboard the Africa Tram Safari for a trip around the park. Board one of the Park’s trams, and you’ll hit the trails to experience—up close—many different animal species in a variety of habitats. Your guide will let you in on fascinating details of their lives, describing their unique behaviors, and the survival challenges they face in today’s world.
You will cruise the park’s large field exhibits and gaze upon herds of curious giraffes, Cape buffalo, ostriches, rhinos, gazelles, and antelope, as they strut across their grasslands habitat. From the comfort of your breezy, open-air tram, you can watch as herds of antelopes prance alongside the vehicle, just as curious about you as you are about them.
Upon returning to “base camp,” finish off your day meandering through the rest of the Park’s stunning habitats and paying a visit to the other mammals, reptiles and birds that call the world-famous San Diego Zoo Safari Park home! You will go home with a new appreciation for the beauty of the African savanna, and for the many wonders of the world’s diverse wildlife.
