San Francisco’s trademark structure is, of course, the Golden Gate Bridge. Once the longest suspension bridge in the world, this area landmark is now synonymous with the city, and its history and aura are beloved by residents and visitors alike. Enjoy an up-close look at the Golden Gate Bridge, as well as another often overshadowed monument, the massive San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge (known locally as the Bay Bridge), with this Bridge 2 Bridge Cruise!
Your 90-minute cruise will be fully-narrated by a local tour guide who can school you in the ins and outs of the San Francisco Bay area, replete with its legends, natural history, Native American cultural influences, and history. You’ll not only sail past the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges, but your captain will also bring you past the mysterious island of Alcatraz, also known as “the Rock”, where thousands of inmates were housed in the mid-twentieth century. According to the prison officials, while many attempted an escape, not one lived to tell the tale of a successful escape. Three prisoners did manage to escape the walls of the prison itself using an intricate plan involving cutting through damp rock with blunt utensils. Although they reached the sea and attempted to swim the distance of the bay to San Francisco, they were drowned in the icy waters. Your tour guide will also show you Treasure Island, a man-made island that was heavily relied upon during World War II as a naval base, and now is home to several film studios.
The unique Bridge 2 Bridge Cruise is a great way to see the interesting structures and islands around the San Francisco Bay area, and will provide some rare photographic opportunities. The Bridge 2 Bridge cruise offers a selection of foreign audio options including Hindi, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin, Korean, Japanese, Italian, Russian, Thai, Taiwanese, Veitnamese, Arabic, Hebrew, and Indonesian! Please be sure to arrive at the Pier 43 1/2 area 15 minutes before your scheduled departure time.
