Originally constructed as the first West Coast museum dedicated to modern and contemporary art, the SFMOMA’s recent three-year-long expansion project has turned this already must-see art destination into the largest museum of its kind in the entire country. With more than three times its previous gallery size, the new SFMOMA is chock full of iconic and inspiring works of art from Paul Klee to Alexander Calder and beyond.
New additions include the Doris and Donald Fisher Collection, which will be on view to the public for the very first time this May, as well as a fresh variety of special exhibitions featuring such topics as graphic art, contemporary sculpture, modern film, and more.
